In his first joint address to Congress since returning to power, President Donald Trump reaffirmed his strong support for American farmers, unveiling new trade policies aimed at strengthening their position in the domestic market.
“Our new trade policy will also be great for the American farmer. I love the farmer,” Trump declared, emphasizing that increased tariffs on foreign agricultural imports would protect U.S. producers and boost local sales. The tariffs, set to take effect on April 2nd, aim to limit competition from low-quality foreign goods, which Trump described as “very dirty and disgusting.”
He also criticized the Biden administration for failing to enforce a previous $50 billion trade deal with China, which had promised major agricultural purchases from U.S. farmers. “We were doing great, but Biden did not enforce it, and it hurt our farmers,” he stated.
Despite acknowledging a short adjustment period, Trump assured farmers that they would soon see significant benefits. “Our farmers are going to have a field day,” he promised, expressing confidence that his policies would restore prosperity to the agricultural sector.
